Moved some boxes around in the garage and these jumped right out of their folders ran past me into the house and onto the scanner. So for those few Camp Lazlo fans that post comments on my blog, this is for you! Enjoy or ....I guess be bored, I'll draw new things some day.

Though these are copies, they are still nothing short of incredible, her work made the show. The wonderfully talented Sue Mondt. A few of her traditional paintings that set the style of camp below. Will post some bg rough layouts soon.

Well.. I... I…. am totally unprepared for this, jeez, I've never won anything but here goes, I'd like to thank my Job for long hours, no hiatus, and fear of taking a vacation. Lets see, there's watching lots of TV, sitting in traffic and ooh of course wasting time, couldn't forget you old buddy. Some said it couldn't be done. I did it the previous year and wasn't even nominated, but now I have this trophy and I'm living proof ! So get out there and get yours it can be done.

12 hours of Sebring

This weekend is the start of the 2010 American Le mans series. To kick things off they have an awesome 12 hour race in Sebring Florida. With the likes of Porsche Ferrari, GM, Acura, Peugeot, all fighting on the same bumpy old airport tarmac. Since I don't live anywear near that wonderful state of epic American racetracks, I'm going to watch it on TV. Yep, 12 hours is a long time and I'm not going to miss any of it. Sat 7:00am Pst on SPEED... WATCH IT !

Flapjack Design

Flapjack is doing well, the show is great and we draw with our fingers crossed, in hopes for a 2nd season pickup. The show is climbing in the ratings, and now that the Lakers lost, Dad's across the country have given the remote back to the kids for thursday night cartoons on Cartoon Network. So below is the crazy professor, pilot, slash, inventor from Several Leagues above the sea. This was one of the early episodes I designed on, and thought I would show my thought process for this guy. Open jacket no shirt with slight perv undertones towards Bubbie. Whales need loving too.

Starting to get close and did a pass with a tombo brush pen.

The final design shipped.

So tune in every Thursday new episodes at 8:30 pm Pacific.

50 years in space

On October 4th 1957 The Russians beat the U.S. in the space race launching the first satellite "Sputnik" in orbit. Pasadena's JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) had been working on several rockets to take our own satellite in to space. Only 4 months later January 31st 1958 we put EXPLORER 1 up with a few science experiments one being the Van Allen Cosmic radiation instrument. My grandfather was on the Design team at JPL and I am proud of his accomplishments as he is recognized as one of the few left alive from the LAB. Its amazing to think what we have accomplished in 50 years with the satellite space program, yet how little man has traveled the same.

Explorer 1 6ft long just under 30 lbs.

"Sputnick" 23 inches in diameter. Many don't know that the russians launched a second satellite a month after sputnick this time carrying a very highly trained Dog!

Ollie Johnston estate

Last may, while flipping through a penny saver, possibly by fate I found this "Estate Sale Famous animator La Canada Flintridge", assuming it was Ollie Johnston, and I had never got the chance to visit with him at his house, I jumped at the chance to visit his home. Once there, it felt more like leeches rummaging through the Johnston's belongings. It didn't feel right, who were these people didn't they know who this man was? I saw a few fellow animators but mostly the flea market type. Ollie needed assisted living and had left a few months prior. The proceeds went to his care I assume. So I took this chance to photograph his home and show those who don't know the way his mind worked at home. I apologize to any one in advance that may be offended I too feel sad just looking through these images, however I was more astonished and mesmerized by Ollie's sense of engineering and love for building things, especially the trains.

Track Day Instructor

Here is a good example of just how things are done at the Streets of Willow race track in Willow Springs Rosamond. This is my instructor in my same car (wrx STI) from last year September doing a few laps Counter Clockwise. You can see on lap 2 how much more confident he enters the bowl at the top of the hill, when he closes in on the lotus and miata. You're supposed to approach this at over 100 and the fact that left hand hairpin is banked keeps you from flying off into orbit. Though I did the fastest times in the novice group until I get the courage to approach the bowl that committed, I'll never see a faster lap.
This is how things looked in my car but with more tire squeal, Panic, and sweaty palms. Will bring gloves and bigger balls next time!

Camp Lazlo Days

I use to work on Camp Lazlo as Character and Prop Designer. This show is still on the air loved by many children and retarded adults. Now even though the characters were not a design masterpiece, and I really had to adjust to draw like Joe Murray, the crew turned into something special. Every day was fun, we had an amazing group of artists and talent. Many of same crew moved on to Flap Jack ,the show I 'm on today, and the fun continues. So I'll post a few designs never seen here and there from time time.
